This would have these upsides:

  • Alt Text/image description could be provided for the images, don't believe this is possible/happens with the URL card/OGP
  • Does media load more reliably than URL cards?
  • Bot posts would be available to Pixelfed users

Potential downsides:

  • Additional media load on servers
  • Duplicate content if the preview card and image are both shown
